CBT-i

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for insomnia (CBT-i) is a structured program aimed at identifying the thoughts and beliefs that negatively impact a person’s ability to fall asleep, while also positively changing sleep habits in a way that promotes sound sleep.

CBT-i involves an individualized plan created collaboratively between Dr. Muller and each individual. Each plan has similar components that are tailored to meet each individual’s specific need. The first component of the plan involves stimulus control in order to address conditioned arousal. The second component of the plan involves sleep restriction, which is aimed at reducing the amount of time an individual spends in bed while not sleeping. The third component of the plan involves reducing sleep interfering arousal or activation. Each individual will be asked to keep a sleep diary and the diary will be reviewed at each session.

The goals of CBT-i are to increase the amount of time an individual sleeps, increase the quality of sleep, and increase control of sleep patterns. Sessions are time-limited and require hard work and commitment. This program is practical, focused, and effective.
