Specialty Areas

Dr. Muller has worked in a variety of settings including a private luxury rehab, an integrative health center, a psychiatric hospital, a dual diagnosis clinic at a methadone treatment center, and private practice. Her specialty areas include PTSD, addiction issues, and anxiety.

I offer time limited, evidence-based treatments for very specific problems such as trauma, addictions, and insomnia.

EMDR

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is is an evidence-based CBT technique that is aimed at reducing the power of traumatic memories. Therapy will include establishing safety and reprocessing trauma memories so that you are able to start healing and take control back of your life. Many addictive disorders are caused by prior traumas. In these cases, EMDR can be used to treat the addiction and effectively reduce cravings. Sessions are 60 minutes long, giving you the time you need to go deep and start the healing process.

MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness is an evidence-based approach to treating many disorders and improving quality of life. Therapy will focus on learning how to experience life in the present moment, in a non-judgmental way. Sessions will be interactive, teaching new skills that can be done independently. These skills can include breathing techniques, meditation, acceptance strategies, and activities to raise awareness and trust. Mindfulness has been effectively used in the treatment of trauma, addictions, insomnia, as well as many other disorders. It has also been used to increase quality of life and help people deal effectively with stress and anxiety. I offer mindfulness-based therapy both within the context of the traditional psychotherapy session and also as a stand alone treatment.

CBT-i

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for insomnia (CBT-i) is an evidence-based treatment for insomnia. Thoughts and feelings about sleep are examined and tested to see if they’re accurate, while behaviors are examined to determine if they promote sleep. Sessions will focus on treating conditioned arousal, identifying and eliminating ineffective habits, and reducing sleep-related worry and anxiety. I offer CBT-i as a stand alone treatment that takes place within the traditional 50-minute therapy hour. CBT-i is a medication-free approach to treatment.

“Being cut off from our own natural self-compassion is one of the greatest impairments we can suffer. Along with our ability to feel our own pain go our best hopes for healing, dignity, and love.”
